LA City Guide

Whether you’ve locked down a new job in La La Land or you’re just ready for a more relaxed lifestyle, you’ll find a neighborhood in Los Angeles suited to your taste. As one of the nation’s largest and most diverse metropolitan areas, Los Angeles is so much more than the Hollywood and Beverly Hills you see on TV. It’s full of culture, great dining, unique neighborhoods, outdoor recreation, and hidden gems around every corner.

Marina Del Rey / Playa Del Rey / Playa Vista

THE DRAW: Tucked away from the congested city; Live, work, and play lifestyle

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: Pacific Palisades; Santa Monica

GETTING AROUND: Very walkable; Close to LAX; Beach paved walkway from Playa Del Rey to Pacific Palisades

  • Near Los Angeles International Airport, bountiful entertainment choices, and a lot of sea shores and harbors to investigate, this ocean side area is great for first-time homebuyers hoping to settle down without surrendering any amenities. Marina del Rey is barely enough eliminated from the city's blocked areas of interest, offering occupants serene coastline residing only relatively close to famous places of interest, for example, the Venice Beach Boardwalk, Abbot Kinney Boulevard, and Marina Beach (otherwise called Mother's Beach). From condos to townhouses, this area is known for it's novel blend of lodging that give local people a live, work, and play sort of way of life like Downtown Los Angeles or Playa Vista.
  • First-time homebuyers may likewise get all the more value for their money in this local when contrasted with other close by networks, like Venice, per the LA Times. Home costs in Marina del Rey presently range from the high $400s to simply more than $1 million, and the middle deal cost is in the mid $800s

Santa Monica

THE DRAW: Beach access; Weather; Schools

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: Pacific Palisades; Venice

GETTING AROUND: Metro line Access; 10/10 Walkability

  • The city of Santa Monica is the essence of the Southern California coastline local area. It's politically active with a fiercely free city committee. Santa Clause Monica has its own educational system which is known for its quality training.
  • Arranged on Santa Monica Bay, it is verged on five sides by various neighborhoods of the city of Los Angeles: Pacific Palisades toward the north, Brentwood on the upper east, West Los Angeles on the east, Mar Vista on the southeast, and Venice on the south
  • The Santa Monica Pier has been one of LA's most famous attractions for 100 years. For some Angelenos, the Ferris wheel on the dock close to the ocean side is an effectively conspicuous milestone, and a significant number of us have affectionate recollections here.
  • Quite a bit of Santa Monica's enduring ubiquity with travelers and local people the same is on account of this renowned dock. With the rides and festival food, it's extraordinary for families, obviously, however this is an objective anybody can appreciate
  • Santa Monica has three primary shopping locale: Montana Avenue on the north side, the Downtown District in the city's center, and Main Street on the south end. Each has its own extraordinary feel and character. Montana Avenue is a stretch of extravagance shop stores, cafés, and little workplaces that for the most part includes more upscale shopping. The Main Street region offers a diverse blend of dress, cafés, and other specialty retail.

Culver City

THE DRAW: Movie Production; Family orienteed;  Strong Community

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: MarVista; West LA

GETTING AROUND: Metro Line access; 9/10 walkability

  • There is an incredible energy in Culver City right now with a tangible sensation of development. The Platform is by all accounts at the focal point of a lot of it, with enormous tech organizations, lofts, lodgings, cafés, retail and all the more all springing up inside a half mile range. It's all so available from anyplace in the city.
  • Destinations and Landmarks: In the '20s, Culver City was home to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, making it one of the greatest studio regions in Los Angeles. Quite a bit of it actually stands today, yet has been joined into Sony and Columbia Pictures. A tremendous open air shopping center called Platform is the focal point of Culver City's ascent in prevalence, highlighting everything from a SoulCycle studio, to a craftsmanship exhibition, to a best-tortilla-in-the-city competitor at Loqui.
  • Culver City is big and expansive, so for a long time it wasn’t exactly full of hip and trendy things, but like everywhere, that’s changed. A lot of Sony and Columbia employees have settled over here, trying to avoid what would otherwise be a hellish commute, though the Expo Line helps that out.

Brentwood / Sawtelle / Westwood

THE DRAW: Centrally located; Close to the beach; amazing restaurants

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: West Los Angeles; Culver City

GETTING AROUND: Metro line; 10/10 walkability

Westwood

  • Westwood is best known as the home of UCLA. Westwood is dominated by the influence of UCLA and its world-class Medical Center. Not only does the University provide an atmosphere of intellectual endeavor, but it also offers superb musical and dramatic performances. There’s not much time in Westwood’s history that isn’t tied to the prolific university—it was founded less than 10 years after Westwood’s development from a 3,000 acre ranch into a hotspot for new houses. Today, student life dominates the area, and it’s unwise to wear any sort of USC or Trojan gear around here—the rivalry is very real. It’s also home of Westwood Village Memorial Park, one of our most beautiful cemeteries (and the resting place of famous people like Marilyn Monroe and Rodney Dangerfield).

Brentwood

  • Running west from Bel Air and the San Diego Freeway all the way to the Pacific Palisades, Brentwood is a community set in the south-facing foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. An exclusive and affluent community, Brentwood is home to many executives and well-known personalities. Consisting of many California Ranch, and Spanish-style homes on large lots.

Sawtelle

  • Sawtelle is noted for its thriving Japanese American community, busy restaurants and arthouse movie theaters. It has strong roots in Japanese-American history. Stoner Park is a natural hub of the Sawtelle neighborhood with its attendant tennis courts, children's playground, skate plaza, seasonal outdoor pool, recreation center and Japanese garden. It is at the end of Stoner Avenue. The Los Angeles Police Department is located just off Sawtelle Ave. and operates the West Los Angeles Community Police Station at 1663 Butler Avenue, 90025.

El Segundo

THE DRAW: Beach access; a quaint downtown; small-town charm; New Top Golf is being built!

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: San Pedro

GETTING AROUND: The new Crenshaw Line connects you to more action

El Segundo or Spanish for “The Second”

  • The northern and southern limits of the town are Los Angeles International Airport and Manhattan Beach, with the Pacific Ocean as the western limit. Its eastern limit is generally set apart by Aviation Blvd.
  • El Segundo is home to the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Air Force Base and many Fortune 500 organizations. Perceived as the aviation capital of the world, our lively economy remembers pioneers for aviation and guard, bioscience, data innovation, energy, land and inventive media.
  • El Segundo has its own ocean side, as well as three public pools, two of which are outdoor pools open during summer months. The El Segundo Parks and Recreation staff are the reason for the hit NBC program Parks and Recreation. There are two standard turf fields named Campus El Segundo Athletic Fields, which are available to the public.
  • The El Segundo Unified School District serves the private locale of El Segundo, west of Pacific Coast Highway. The school locale was recorded as one of the state's 29 scholarly out entertainers by Standards and Poor's in 2005.

Mid City

THE DRAW: Location, location, location—and charming architecture

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: West Adams; Fairfax

GETTING AROUND: A car is helpful, but the Purple Line is on the way

  • Mid-City is literally in the middle of everything and is a centrally located neighborhood in Los Angeles. With a short drive to Hollywood, downtown, or the beach, there is hardly a bad commute from Mid-City. This neighborhood features quiet, palm-lined streets with a mix of single-family homes and duplex, triplex, and multi-family buildings. Home prices range between half a million dollars to well over $1 million, most of which are being purchased by Westside transplants being priced out of traditional coastal areas such as Venice, Marina del Rey, and even Mar Vista and Culver City.
  • Expect a family-friendly atmosphere within the neighborhood, but a healthy dose of commotion on the main streets. There are some parts of Mid-City that have been gentrified over the past two decades, however the majority of it has yet to be gentrified which is why homes in this area are relatively affordable compared to any neighborhood that lies north or west of Mid-City. There is also a lot of room for appreciation as this area continues to see increases in sales volume and prices.

Hollywood

THE DRAW: Big-city energy with everything at your fingertips

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: Koreatown; Downtown LA’s Historic Core

GETTING AROUND: Super walkable; two Red Line stations; major bus routes

  • Hollywood is an American area in the focal district of Los Angeles, California. Its name has come to be a shorthand reference for the U.S. entertainment world and individuals related with it. A significant number of its studios like Columbia Pictures, Disney, Paramount Pictures, Warner Bros., and Universal Pictures were established there; Paramount actually has its studios there. This city is enthusiastic all of the time with a lot to do inside a short strolling distance as it is the seventh-densest area in all of Los Angeles County. On the off chance that you're anticipating settling down to develop your family, you might need to consider viewing at different choices as this city is to a great extent populated by youthful single experts hoping to make their case in a major city!
  • Home prices in Hollywood currently range from the high $500s to just over $1 million, and the median sale price is in the mid $800s.

Silver lake / Echo Park

THE DRAW: Entertainer’s dream; great outdoors with biking and walking paths ; professional’s retreat

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: Los Feliz, Atwater Village

GETTING AROUND: Close to Dodger Stadium; 4 major freeways and centrally located

  • Silver Lake is known as the first fashionable person capital of Los Angeles and lies South East of Los Feliz. The area is somewhat protected and is exceptionally near Downtown Los Angeles. The actual local is walkable along Sunset Blvd and Silver Lake Blvd, where you will track down most of the hip eateries, bistros and shops. Silver Lake is most certainly not generally so reasonable as it used to be, with a normal of $737/sqft. Homes presently available here range somewhere in the range of $550,000 for little SFH to $6,000,000. Reverberation Park is a nearby area that lies South of Silver Lake. It turned into the fresher "fashionable person" neighborhood as individuals were being valued out of Silver Lake, which constantly saw dramatic development in costs throughout the course of recent years.

Downtown Los Angeles

THE DRAW: City life; Diversity; No need for a car

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: San Franciso

GETTING AROUND: Metro access; 10/10 Walkability

  • Downtown Los Angeles has seen a fair expansion in the two deals volume and middle cost. Townhouses here are moderately reasonable contrasted with a few different regions, for example, West LA and the consistent development of new private elevated structures are verification that there is popularity to put resources into land in the always extending downtown Los Angeles. There has been a huge expansion in deals volume and costs of apartment suites in midtown keep on rising consistently. Downtown now features incredible restaurants as well as cultural landmarks, such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall. If you’re moving from SF or NYC and want to maintain the feeling of living in a humming downtown, DTLA might be the perfect place for you.

Sherman Oaks / Encino / Tarzana

THE DRAW: Affordability; Ventura Blvd Entertainment.; Lower population density

SIMILAR NEIGHBORHOODS: Van Nuys; Calabasas; Burbank

GETTING AROUND: Short commute to the city

  • No, your eyes don’t deceive you! This is three whole neighborhoods; a huge swath of land just east of Studio City. As prices rise literally everywhere, further out neighborhoods are going to start rising with the tide, and Sherman Oaks, Encino and Tarzana are certainly a part of this trend. The San Fernando Valley, or simply “The Valley”, is known for its great restaurants, movie studios, hiking trails and more. Be advised “The Valley” weather can be 10-15 degrees warmer than the Westside and Mid-City. But the lower priced homes are well worth it!
